It was the stupidest, most southern-fried, lamebrained decision I ever made in my life.
Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell describes his decision to not kill innocent Afghani goatherds he encountered behind enemy lines. Those goatherds later warned the Taliban of his presence and cost 19 American lives. Michael Sandel famously illustrated the complexities of justice with such real life scenarios in his introductory course on political philosophy at Harvard, and now gives the same treatment in a new book. Though I haven’t picked it up yet, it’s almost certainly a worthwhile read for those interested in an accessible introduction to moral & political philosophy; the link below is to a review of the book as well as a new book by Amartya Sen.
